Such a mess!

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

The past four days, the hubby and I had been sleeping in the living room as the toilet in our room underwent some reconstruction. For the past four days, we have diligently vacuumed, swept and mopped the house for gazillion times and we still felt that the entire house was covered with dust, especially our room. We made a mistake by not covering our bed and stuffs before they started hacking the toilet floor. To our ultimate horror, we found that our bed was looking extremely white as if snow had fallen or something.

So, we pulled out our trusty fold able mattresses and camped outside in the living room. I actually think that it’s kinda romantic and exciting to be sleeping in the living room. And we could hear the whirring of our fridge from the kitchen at night. All strange new sounds to keep me awake. hehe.

The contractors didn’t actually do a good job and yesterday, they finally finished the job. However, to our dismay, there seemed to be an error in their work. The water would not completely flow into the hole and remained stagnant and sorta flooded a little in the middle of the toilet.

Hmmm…not only these people had taken their own sweet time the past few days, snaking off from work at every opportunity they get, having the longest breaks I have seen and taking another extra day to complete their work. I paused for a while to adjust my emotions. How should I respond to this ineffective and poorly done work? Holler at them and demand that they rectify it immediately? Be a bitch and comment on how dissatisfied we are with their quality of work? Complain to their boss and demand for a discount? I told myself that we have every bit of right to do all these.

But the reasonable part of me told me that I won’t achieve a win-win situation if I persist to be a so-called ‘rightful customer’.

Hence, we told them nicely that we could see that there is some miscalculation in their leveling of the floor and they admitted it as well. So, there must be some rectification done in order to have their work completed. They have already superseded their estimated time frame and it is not possible for us to pay them for a poorly done job. Moreover, I dread to clean up the house again if they start hacking the floor again.

So, we have arrange one more day, yes, this Friday, for them to hack the floor and ‘obediently’ fix whatever that needs fixing. One more day. That’s all I’m willing to sacrifice.

With my temperament at check and my wits to the end, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the hope that they can get it right this time. I refuse to see my house in a dusty mess anymore regardless of whether it is romantic to sleep in the living room or not.

Nevertheless, I’m giving myself a pat at the back for being such a pushover nice person. After all, I’m not always this nice, y’know.

A World of Babies

Monday, November 19, 2007

My nephew, baby Nathan has been discharged from the hospital last Saturday.

Now, he’s back at my sis home. My niece is not taking things in so well, but I can say that she’s coping, or at least, learning to cope with a new member in the family. All of us are helping her to work on that and provide her with a sense of security.

Like I said in my earlier post, Nathan has this huge set of healthy lungs and his cries are quite deafening. I guess it’s a good sign that he’s a mighty little boy.

Last Saturday, the hubby and I went over to celebrate my birthday as well as to visit my sister. We had a fine time chomping on my birthday cake, my poor sister who had no choice but to forgo the yummy cake as all ladies in confinement are not allowed any other food except for ‘Confinement Food’.

After that, my sis asked me to get a pacifier and a can of formula milk as Nathan seemed to get hungry easily but my sis was not able to feed him during the nights due to her C-Sect wound. She told me that the searing pain is like having a twisting hand inside her stomach almost every minute. Poor sis. Motherhood is indeed a great sacrifice and a noble job.

So, the hubby and I scampered off in our car and searched for the stuffs high and low in the nearby sundry shops. My usual panicky self was so anxious cos it was pretty late and I was worried I couldn’t find the correct brand of formula milk.

In the end, TESCO saved our lives! While in Tesco, I was boggled with the numerous brands of Formula Milk. Duragro, Enfagrow, Enfakid, Snow, Enfalac A+, Enfapro…etc. I finally found what I wanted and dashed off to the Baby Section.

pacifierI stood in front of the rows of pacifiers, staring blankly at all the shapes and sizes…and COLOURS of pacifiers. There were also accessories to the pacifiers. Well, how many pacifiers does a baby need anyway???

There were pacifiers with rounded nipple, others were just oddly shaped and with lotsa designs. Will the baby care so much if the pacifier has a starfish ‘Aquatic’ look or an animal patterned design or whether it glows in the dark?

@_@

In the end, I just grabbed one pacifier with the label ‘For Newborns‘.

It was with a moon faced picture, purple in colour and its handle glows in the dark. I think it’s kinda cool looking pacifier. At least I didn’t get him a pinkish one with a baby elephant picture. I don’t want my nephew to look sissy.

This is my first experience in buying baby stuffs. Not easy, man. So confusing.

Announcing Baby Nathan, the little King

Thursday, November 15, 2007

The Hubby and I are now proud Uncle and Aunt of our ADORABLE little baby nephew, Nathan.

My sister went through a C-Sect this morning and out came little Nathan, bawling with a set of healthy lungs. Although I was not in the hospital to go through this precious moment with my sister, I am thankful to God Almighty for the safe delivery of our baby nephew.

The hubby has taken two days off from work, just to babysit my niece. She has been a little clingy off late and a little unsure despite the many assurances from her parents. However, the moment she laid her eyes on her baby brother, I think all her insecurities sorta vanished, replaced by only unconditional love.

So, here’s a WARM WELCOME TO BABY NATHAN, OUR BELOVED NEPHEW! We love you with all our hearts. Muaks! From Ah Yee Pa Pa & Ah Yee Ma Ma.

The Berlian Girls

Last Tuesday, I had a fabulous time at dinner with my old classmates from high school. The reason for celebration? Well, we took that time to celebrate the presence of our Class Captain, FL who came back from New Zealand for a short visit. It is such a rare opportunity as she’s gone to NZ for a couple of years now and I have not met her since then.

This time round, there were four of us present, namely, Ivy (”The Star Student”), Salina (”The Head Prefect”), FL (”The Class Captain”) and Lisa (”The Wacky blusher”). Too bad two of our old friends (my two fellow bloggers), Anttyk and SexyLadyMonica were not available that night as they had stuffs to do.

However, SexyLadyMonica beat me in posting up the pictures we took that night. You can see the complete picture of the four of us in her blog.

We didn’t take much pictures that night cos we spent most of our time yakking away and laughing non-stop with the constant jests and humour. There were no moments of silence due to awkwardness. No moments when we need to rack our brains to find a common topic. In fact, there were so many things to talk about that we found that the conversations were endless.

One thing which amused me though. We actually met another girl from our school. She was not in our class but she had left quite an impression on me during high school so I could remember her name. Unfortunately, she could not join us as she was serving us. Oh, I would say she has excellent skills and manner. I was a little uncomfortable though, to have an ex-schoolmate to serve me while I had my dinner. But, what amused me was that, in the midst of our girly talks and incessant laughter, this ex-schoolmate of ours seemed to break our conversations in between by taking our plates away or serving extra water or dessert. Salina was in mid-sentence and we were all listening earnestly when the moment was cut off suddenly when our ex-schoolmate came in between the sentences. We were like “and…and…” then, suddenly we had to pause our conversation to reply questions like what desserts we would like and stuffs.

It’s quite funny, you know. And we kept saying, “so, what were we talking about?” and everyone would be saying, “Where did we stop ah? So many pauses till we can’t remember what we were talking about.”

So, here are some pictures we took that night at the Apartment, the Curve.

Freaking out

My sister is very pregnant and looks VERY pregnant. And I just realized that next month, we will be adding another tiny member to our family.

We were all sitting in my living room after dinner last week. Suddenly I looked at the sister’s stomach and my eyes went as big as saucers (not really la, my eyes are soooo small!).

It suddenly struck to me that she’ll be giving birth very soon!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————–

blusher : OMG!!! You are really going to deliver next month. NEXT month! I’m sooo NOT ready! You guys ready meh?

everyone @ home : o_O ????

B-I-L : Of course we are ready. Habis? If we are not ready, then you wanna come and help us take care of the baby ah?

blusher : Oh No! I’m not ready! I’m not ready!

the sister : H-E-L-L-O??? I’m the one going to give birth la, not you. Then apasal you freak out like a crazy nut???

blusher : OMG! OMG! (hyperventilating)

everyone @ home : -_-

——————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Yes, I could be notoriously nuts sometimes and the family always laugh at my hysterical moments.

Wow! I’m going to be an aunt… again. Another kid will look up at me and call me “Ah-Yee-Ma-Ma”…that would be SOOOOO COOL!!!
