Psst…here’s a secret. I have always wanted to prepare a romantic dinner for my husband. And all these years, I never made any effort on it. So, last week, I was bitten by the romantic bug and had so many crazy ideas about it.
I don’t think I had it all right, but by the smile on his face when he saw all these, it just melted my heart right away. (Honey, if you are reading this) After all the crazy battle with the kitchen utensils and all those food, I’m just glad that you appreciate my effort. Thanks for making my ‘romantic‘ plans a success!
. . .
I made the setting as jazzy as possible with all lights out except for our two wall lights which was adjusted to create the right ambiance. Of course, I had lighted some aromatherapy essential oils beforehand, to have the living room smelling like a flower field!
One friend suggested Barry White for the background music but unfortunately I did not have it. So, I slotted in some old jazz tunes which turned up quite beautifully.
I picked up some pink roses and white daisies in the morning and arranged them in my small IKEA vase. Candles streamed from the piano to the dining table, all lighted and happily burning away.

. . .
As for the menu for that night, I whipped out some homemade thick pumpkin soup which I added with a dash of dried basil. It turned out quite good, despite my numerous attempts with the wretched blender (I’m not good with kitchen utensils, you see). To go with the soup, I heated up dinner rolls spread with golden butter.
The main course was served together with garden salad topped with special mint sauce. I carved out faces for the cherry tomatoes. It actually represented the two of us. I know, it’s a bit corny, but it has a personal touch to that. I added in sauteed white mushrooms as a side dish and sprinkled some cheese on top. The ‘veg’ steaks were decorated with buttered asparagus.
Dessert was a light one because I didn’t want us to be too stuffed. So, we had all sorts of fruits in different shapes.
. . .
Well, that’s about it. And oh, we danced a little after dinner. Well, we sort of swayed to the music cos we were both too full and lazy to move.
. . .
The outcome was a blast and I had a fun-filled quality time with my husband.
So, if you wanna have a quiet evening at home with your loved one, do try this one day. Good luck! And trust me, it’s worth all the battle in the kitchen.
p.s. sorry the images are in low quality. We were too excited to sample the food that we took these pics in a rush.
