Under the weather

Thursday, September 20, 2007

Taught the kids in the afternoon class this idiom today. And now, to demonstrate how it means, I think I’m feeling a little under the weather.

Got back from the class with mind-numbing a-tis-shoos and chill to the bones. Hmph! It’s kinda a nasty feeling that your bones are being torn apart and there’s nothing you can do about it.

So, here I am, after rolling around the bed with the hubby at my beck and call, I’ve decided not to waste my time. After all, the pain’s there no matter where I roll or how I curl up. Yeah, I know. I sound like a pampered spoilt brat. Heee! In our house, if you’re calling in sick, then you get to be the pampered one.

Whoops, there goes the spasm in my head. Being under the weather is no fun at all.

Early Christmas Gift…

Thursday, September 20, 2007

I’ve been hinting to the hubby lately to get me an early Christmas present and I have my eyes on some lappies. My current old hand-me-down PC is what can I say, er…old? has seen better days? likes to have temper tantrums when it would just hang and pretend not to respond to my obvious and frantic tapping of the keyboard?

Well, one word sums it all. CHANGE.

Yeah, I know I should be grateful to have a beat up old computer to do some work, surf the Internet and blog, of course! But there are countless times when I wanted to bang my head on the monitor (mind you, it’s not even LCD Flat Screen type) and kick the CPU when it suddenly decided not to respond. We have re-formatted it many times and yet, more problems arise.

So, yeah, I’m finally done with it.

The dilemma now is that I can’t seem to decide which laptop that I want.

Of course, I would love this…….

laptop1

….. but it’s WAY out of our budget.

We’re also thinking about HP’s Pavillion TX1000 series Tablet/Laptop which is quite small and cute. But then again, I wanted a coloured lappy (if I get a choice..a pink , red or white will do fine) and DELL offers colour options. We tried to configure the specs with DELL Inspiron 1420 but then the hubby has his eye on TOSHIBA Satellite series which suit our budget as well.

laptop 2Price is ok, small & light, good speakers, cool specs except it’s using AMD processor (I personally prefer Intel Core 2 Duo processor). But I heard the screen is not so nice and for a tablet, the touch screen function is not so good as well.

Any comments?

But at the end of the day, whichever laptop we decided to get, I think I’ll be a LOT HAPPIER and SATISFIED. Period. :-D

Facts or Myths

Saturday, September 15, 2007

One of my friend, SM, was religiously plucking grey hair from my jet-black hair and our other friends started to stop her from doing so.

SJ : Stop! They say that if you pluck a strand of grey hair, it will grow back triple-fold tomorrow.

Mrs. C : Yes! Yes!

Blusher : Got such thing meh? Really ah?

SJ : Yes, last time my friend plucked some grey hair and after that, she had more growing.

Hmm…this got me thinking about some old wives’ tales which had been passed down from many generations.

My mom used to tell us not to put our heads out of the car windows or else, the wind would blow our face into a static state and we would look horrible forever.

My grandmother used to warn us that if we did not finish up every bit of rice from our plates, our future husbands would be pimply-faced just like the bits of rice left on our plates.

I was also told that if we ever saw a black butterfly fluttering at home, it meant that our deceased grandfather/grandmother had come back to visit us.

As I grew up, I had great many inputs of these kinds of tales. When I was young, I took it in easily and most of the time, in fear, worried that if I did not adhere to these tales, all would really happen.

Now, most of the old wives’ tales, I found, had logical reasons behind them. It seemed to me, the easiest but not necessarily the most informative way to have kids disciplined. Of course, there are still those other ‘pantangs’ which I never seemed to understand. Like drinking a cup of warm water with chopsticks will help to stop hiccups. Mind boggling indeed.

Well, what are the facts and myths that you grew up with?

Delightful Part-time work

Friday, September 14, 2007

This week, I’ve been appointed by a friend (an auntie) to watch over her dogs while she’s away for a vacation. Her children, who are my friends as well, usually work late and nobody’s at home to bring the dogs out for a walk and marking their territory with their poop.

So, I was the unofficial dog-sitter of the week.

Wheee! I love dogs. I practically love the scampering and all the cuddling with dogs. I love everything about dogs, except when they breathe into my face and sometimes, it could be an awful stench. Yucks!

If we ever buy our own house (yea, not apartment), the hubby promised me to have a dog, at least one, in the house. WOOOT!!! I just can’t wait to have my own dog again. Although I’ve been through the pain and misery of losing my dogs previously, I simply remember the wonderful times when they yap around my feet, wanting a pat or a scratch in their tummies. Ahh….

Anyway, dog-sitting this week proved not to be an easy task.

The clients, a 3 year old beautiful Golden Retriever, ‘Nenek‘ and a 5 month old little mutt , ‘Girl Girl‘ (God knows her pedigree) .

Okay, I admit, their names are way too weird but I’ll tell the story another day.

Walking Nenek could be really exhausting cos twice I chose the wrong timing to bring her out. There were these two oddly paired dogs from another house whom Nenek would always jeer at. Yup, she’d provoke these two mutts and start to strain herself from the leash and chase after them. Most of the time, I’d be roughly pulled along. And boy is she strong. I can’t even imagine being pulled by a Rottweiler. I think I’d be practically dragged along, only leaving a trail of dust behind me. Hehe!

Girl Girl was never lack of energy and her enthusiasm in jumping up and down is hardly lacking. Lately, she’s been cultivating a habit of gnawing at anything. Steel chairs, my toes, my fingers, my jeans, poor Nenek’s ears etc. I have to fend off her wet attempts all the time.

So you see, this week, I’ve been utterly exhausted juggling with my two jobs (the kids and the dogs) having the time of my life.

Both the pics are of Nenek. Sorry, a little biased. Will post a pic of Girl Girl soon.

Comfort Food

alpha soupAfter my scare earlier on, I craved for some hot soup. But when I raided the kitchen, I only could find the can of Campbells’ Alpha Soup which I bought sometime ago. Oh well, I don’t think I’m in the mood to whip up something glamorous (Not that I know anyway) and an instant soup suddenly sounded wonderful.

So, right now, I’m drinking piping hot alphabet soup. I think I just chewed on number 4, a C and an E. Ooh…delicious indeed.

Suddenly, I feel like a kid again. Hee!
