HAPPY 50th MALAYSIA!

Friday, August 31, 2007

Yesterday, all the kids in class sang a few of the patriotic songs.

I particularly liked the ‘Tanggal tiga puluh satu, Bulan lapan lima puluh tujuh…’ (no idea what the title is) and all the kids sang with such enthusiasm!

However, I just realized that I had left school for donkey years now and most school kids nowadays sing songs which I’m not familiar at all. For example, the kids sang ‘Jalur Gemilang‘ and ‘Keranamu‘. Songs which were not yet written back in the days when I was still in the school uniform. I remember singing songs like ‘Wawasan 2020‘ and ‘Malaysia‘, though most of the lyrics were half-forgotten. Thank goodness, I can still sing the complete National Anthem. Some friends of mine could only hum along!

Anyway, HAPPY 50th MALAYSIA!

I’m proud to be a Malaysian despite all the traffic jams and poor conditions of the roads. I’m just grateful for the many things we have i.e. the pasar malams (not a fan, but like the idea of it), the pirated DVD sellers, the public holidays (we celebrate so many festivals) and the mamak stalls. Anything else that I missed?

May our nation continue to prosper and the people be in racial harmony always.

I’ll be off to Cameron Highlands with the family over the weekend. I’ll have helluva great time for sure ^__^

It’s 3 AM now and I need to be up by 6 AM! Hoping to beat the expected traffic jam in the highways!

Nite y’all!

Flowers Galore

Thursday, August 30, 2007

The Sister has been leaving some hints about the Flora Fest at Putrajaya for a few days and I thought it would be a lovely experience for XR my niece to explore more about flowers and stuffs. What the heck, Putrajaya is not really that far anyway.

So, we packed our cameras and hopped into the car.

We were welcomed with the deafening yet familiar sounds of the Lion Dance once we reached the location of the event. Throngs of people especially kids were fascinated with the lion dance. It was funny to see every kid cringe and back away once the lion (or should I say, the people behind the lion head) went near them. My niece was not of exception. She kept saying that she was afraid and asked if there was a man behind the lion’s head.

Anyways, I was not really awed with the small range of flowers exhibited. Most of them were withered and seemed to have seen better days.

Nevertheless, my niece was enthralled with the place and kept running around. I must admit, somehow, I felt a little ‘MUHIBAH‘-ness at that event cos there were people from all walks of life.

What I really liked was the serene surroundings of the lake and the sunset was quite breathtaking. Must remember to bring the hubby to watch the sunset from there.

Hello? Hello?

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

Yesterday, I called up a friend and her 5 year old son picked up the phone.

Kid : Hello?

Me : Hello? Is this WL?

Kid : (Long pause).….Yes.

Me : Can I talk to your mommy?

Kid : (Whispers) She’s downstairs.

The line ended.

I dialled again and in three rings, someone answered.

Me : Hello?

Kid : Hello?

Me : WL, where is your mommy?

Kid : (Whispers) She’s downstairs.

Me : Can you call your mommy? I want to speak to her.

Kid : (Still whispers) She’s downstairs.

Click.

The line ended again.

Exasperated, I dialed her mobile phone number. Indeed, she was downstairs but her kid did not tell her. Apparently, he thought I was having a conversation with him.

duh Maybe he thought when he finished answering me, the conversation has ended. Hehehehe…he’s quite famous for this act (according to some other friends who called up before).

AliBaba?

CharmingMarkus has completed his internship with SH theSister. You see, he offered to help out SH theSister and the BIL (brother-in-law) for three months. They agreed and he flew to Malaysia from his home country Austria.

Throughout the three months here, he’d been like a family to us. SH the Sister said, he’s like a brother and sometimes, when he goofed around with XR (my niece), a son.

One day, I was at theSister’s place and we had a short conversation.

Markus : I have a poor memory when it comes to remembering Chinese names.

Me : Yeah, I bet you can’t remember my Chinese name.

Markus : Uh…I remember your name on the Internet, Blusher, right?

Me : Yeah. But my Chinese name is Suet Li.

Markus : Yeah, like your sister Suet Hui. But still I can’t remember Chinese names that well.

Me : My grandma used to call me Ah Li. The Chinese like to call people with ‘Ah’s followed by their last name. Like my sister, Ah Hui.

Markus : Ah Li?

Me : Yes, but nobody EVER calls me that. It sounds a little weird to me.

Markus : Ah Li? As in AliBaba and the Forty Thieves? (stops for a moment, continued LOL). Yes, I will remember this name better. AliBaba.

Me : -_-

To indulge or not to indulge?

Tuesday, August 28, 2007

Long long time ago, I would scoff at the smell or even the taste of coffee.

Now, that was a long long time ago.

coffee addictMy nostrils seemed to have a massive turnaround and the coffee addict self in me has been released. I can’t seem to recall when I started having this penchant for coffee (not all kind, mind you, just a selected few). I’m just having a wild guess that it started since I got hooked up with the hubby. You see, the mom-in-law (MIL) is a coffee connoisseur herself and has been failing to cut this habit of 2 cups of coffee a day. So, I guess, I got used to the aroma of coffee in making and I sorta got tempted by it and later, got hooked!

I’ve been having these thoughts of cranking up my car and zoom to the nearest Starbucks to grab myself a cuppa. Just the thought of the coffee aroma had me nearly on my knees. Yeah, it’s that bad. I gotta admit, the coffee got me all on bended knees now.

So, the question now is to indulge or not to indulge? Hmm…. I could hear my non-coffee drinker friends clucking at me, giving me those knowing looks about how coffee is really bad and stuffs.

tea timeOh, why can’t I just fall in love with tea instead? Jasmine, Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Oolong, Green…there’re so many to choose from but I only fancy the loathsome yet so tempting ‘kopi’.

Yeah, I sound fickle indeed….forgive me, I am weak. All the drama. Hah!

So, anyways, catcha later…I’m getting my car keys!

Lalalalala….*whistles* ^__^
